Waste matters!

POSTED ON 8th December 2015

Local Partnerships helps local authorities and other public sector bodies to deliver cost savings, with a strong focus on supporting the delivery of high quality services to residents and businesses. We have worked closely with Defra for five years managing the Waste Infrastructure Development Programme (WIDP), the Β£3 billion PFI programme for the waste sector.
WIDP Network Group visits South West Devon Energy from Waste Facility
The latest WIDP Network Group was held at the South West Devon Waste Partnership Energy from Waste facility in Plymouth. Local authorities with waste projects linked to the Defra/Local Partnerships Waste Infrastructure Delivery Programme came together to discuss current issues, recycling rates, and share best practice. The Group had a tour around the Energy from Waste facility which treats the residual waste in the area. The South West Devon Waste Partnership is a partnership comprising Plymouth City Council, Torbay Borough Council and the southern part of Devon County Council. The facility has a capacity of 245,000 tonnes and became fully operational in September 2015. It is situated on Ministry of Defence land, and as well as producing electricity, provides heat and power to the Ministry of Defence. This saves valuable fossil resources and reduces carbon dioxide output.

We were also delighted to attend the Association for Decentralised Energy’s annual Awards ceremony on 25 November, showcasing innovation, best practice and achievements across combined heat and power, district heating and energy services. Now in its eighth year, the Awards provide an opportunity for organisations and professionals from across the growing sector to celebrate success and collective attainment.
The Public Sector Award went to the South West Devon Waste Partnership/MVV Environment Devonport Ltd – Devonport Energy from Waste Combined Heat and Power Project.
Congratulations to the team. Local Partnerships provides sector-specific, expert advice and assistance helping Local Authorities to get the best possible value from their complex high-value contracts.
