Roundtable webinar – irrecoverable losses

WRITTEN BY Local Partnerships
POSTED ON 25th November 2020

COVID-19 has impacted councils’ ability to generate revenues in a number of service areas, as a result of the lockdowns, government restrictions, social distancing measures and changes in consumer behaviours related to the pandemic. To book a place, please click here.

In addition to other compensation packages aimed at businesses, Government made some funding available as a one-off income loss scheme that will compensate councils for irrecoverable and unavoidable losses from sales, fees and charges, and income generated in the delivery of services, in the financial year 2020/21.

The scheme covers, for example, loss of income from car park charges where car parks were not being used owing to lockdown, or income generated from leisure centre bookings. However, the scheme does not cover, for example, rental income, other investment income, or income from dividends.

This roundtable webinar, on 27 November 1pm-2.30pm, delivered jointly by the Local Government Association and Local Partnerships will discuss how councils are making use of the scheme, what can be claimed and how they are dealing with those items excluded from the funding.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Darren Knowd, Chief Procurement Officer, Durham County Council and Chair, National Advisory Group
  • Homira Javadi, Chief Finance Officer, Eastbourne Borough and Lewes District Councils
  • Martin Forbes, Strategic Director, Local Partnerships
  • Michael Berrington, Programme Director – PPP and PFI, Local Partnerships

You can find guidance for local authorities on how to access the local government income compensation scheme for lost sales, fees and charges as a result of COVID-19 here.
