News on housing zones

POSTED ON 4th November 2015

In March 2015, Government announced that 20 Housing Zones had been designated which can provide 36,000 new homes on brownfield land. The Zones represent some of the country’s, most challenging opportunities for new build supply and Local Partnerships’ client, the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) have promised a tailored package of capacity support to councils in each Zone. Local Partnerships has recently agreed an expanded role to provide delivery support to councils in Housing Zones.

Host councils are expected to step forward and act as pro-active delivery enablers to drive forward house building on priority sites within the Zones over this parliament and beyond. We are working closely with the HCA to tailor a package of capacity support aimed at accelerating the pace of site assembly, land remediation, critical infrastructure and the delivery of new homes.

Local Partnerships will become an integral part of the council’s delivery team, providing technical expertise that will strengthen confidence and skills. In particular, this will focus on commercial negotiations with private landowners, developers and house builders, legal advice on delivery structures and procurement, and the management of capital infrastructure programmes.
Local Partnerships’ support is addressing a wide range of local opportunities: relocating a waste water treatment works, refurbishing listed buildings, extensive estates regeneration programmes and identifying joint venture partnership opportunities for councils on private land.
