On 13th April Simon Bandy, Local Partnerships’ programme director for Growth and Sustainability, took part in a panel discussion at the London Brownfield Summit. Opened by the Housing Minister, Brandon Lewis, the summit looked at the opportunities and challenges that Brownfield Development provides for London and the strategies that can be developed to ensure these opportunities are delivered.
In the context of the need to accelerate housing development across the whole country, but particularly in London, the panel discussion on ‘financing brownfield zones and investment in private rented opportunities’ raised many issues at the centre of the current housing debate. If delivery is to be accelerated all those involved in the development sector in London need to unlock additional sites, maximise the delivery of a whole range of housing types and tenures as well as bring into the market new housing investors and suppliers.
The panel concluded that collaboration between local authorities, investors and developers will be essential making the best use of brownfield land. Attendees representing all of these sectors are clearly up for the challenge.
