Give and Gain day
WRITTEN BY Local Partnerships
POSTED ON 4th July 2016
For the eighth year in a row, a team from Local Partnerships took part in the national Give and Gain day organised by Business in the Community. Their members work together to tackle a wide range of issues that are essential to building a fairer society and a more sustainable future. They hope to harness the power of volunteers from the business world to promote the three aims of the initiative which are to:
- Mobilise a large volume of volunteers in one day
- Increase awareness of importance of volunteering
- Normalise volunteering within the business world
Doddington & Rollo Community Garden is a large roof garden in Wandsworth. Lack of resources meant that it was unused and the council handed over management of it to the Doddington & Rollo Community Roof Garden. In a great demonstration of community ownership of green assets, the dedicated local team has turned it into a fantastic urban garden producing fresh fruit and veg that in turn they use for healthy eating projects and events for children and other members of the local community – free of charge.
This year we went back to Doddington & Rollo Community Garden which provided an opportunity for our new chief executive, Sean Hanson, to demonstrate he has practical, as well as strategic, skills.
