Investment in renewable energy projects is becoming increasingly popular as a means both to meet climate change targets and to generate commercial income to support service provision. In advance of the LGA Good Practice Guide to Renewable Energy launch, authored by Local Partnerships, we are hosting a masterclass webinar on Friday 5 June at 10am to help local and combined authorities explore how to be confident in making data-driven investment in renewable energy projects. The webinar will feature insights from Aurora Energy Research to provide quantitative answers to key business case questions.
Councils already operate in a complex financial climate, and therefore the rationale behind any renewable energy project needs to be supported by a robust and commercially viable business case. Subsidy-free development carries a higher revenue risk. This is a big challenge to local authorities who need to understand and quantify complex price risks, especially around forecasts. In this webinar experts from Local Partnerships and Aurora will talk about the issues of primary importance when considering a strategy for investment in renewable energy projects including:
- rationale for local authority investment in renewables
- key site attributes and choosing the best technologies for your organisation
- development options for authorities considering renewable energy
- developing a realistic, subsidy-free business case for renewables
- modelling and forecasting renewable energy projects in the UK
