“Sizing the Prize”: a way to galvanise local leaders to take the next steps in achieving effective health and social care integration.

Local leaders across local health and social care systems are often aware of the gap that exists between the current position and their ambitions for more effective integrated service planning and provision. Ways to close this gap are often challenging in the face of competing priorities and pressures. So what is needed to support leaders to progress their integration ambitions, secure better outcomes for service users and make more effective use of local resources?

Local Partnerships and the Local Government Association have drawn upon their work with local systems, including the ongoing learning from the Care and Health Improvement Programme, and are working together to develop an offer to local leaders that we hope will support them with this challenge.

“Sizing the Prize” brings local leaders together to get a shared, evidenced and informed view of the challenges facing the local health and care system and the benefits offered by a more integrated system. It is intended to have a galvanising effect on action to lead, and to progress, change. The support provides an opportunity to consider the ways in which data analysis and information can be used – in a relatively simple way – to identify key lines of enquiry for the local system and to target where greatest benefits can be secured. It demonstrates the value of benchmarking and simple scenario modelling using national and local data sets.

Our work is currently in a pilot phase and we are keen to test it in as many ways as possible to ensure that our offer to local systems provides an effective tool for supporting leadership action.

Please can you help us? Come to stand C9 on Tuesday 3 July at 1.00 pm to hear about Sizing the Prize: the approach we are developing and the outcomes from our pilot work with Strategic Director, Anne Jarrett. We really want to hear your views on where it resonates with your local system, how it might be improved, and how we can best take this forward.

To book your place, please email Roz and simply respond: “Prize”. Further details will be sent to you.
